First Time Coming to Carrollton, Texas – Did You Know?

YESTERDAY

In 1842, Jared Ford first settled the area on a site within the Peters Colony grant. The A. W. Perry family claimed land in the area around Trinity Mills in 1844, and partnered with Wade H. Witt to establish a mill. It is most probable that Carrollton was named after Carrollton, Illinois, the original home of many of the settlers. Carrollton’s was exclusively agricultural in the beginning, but the construction of the Dallas-Wichita Railroad through Trinity Mills in 1878 grew the community in industrial significance. The town soon surpassed Trinity Mills to the north as shipping center for livestock, cotton, cottonseed, and grain.
